Too Close for Comfort Tour

Noblesville, Indiana

"They asked me why the singer's name was Alice. I said, 'Listen, Baby, you really wouldn't understand.'"

I can't tell you how excited I was when I found Audiophileoholic.com was approved to cover the Freaks on Parade Tour at Ruoff Music Center. Finally, a chance to be in the photo pit for one of the greatest rock artists of my generation, Alice Cooper!

I'm ashamed to admit it, but even though Dave and I grew up just outside of Detroit and we both LOVE Alice Cooper, somehow we were never able to make it to an Alice Cooper show until last night. And what a show it was! It totally lived up to our expectations.

Alice Cooper brought an entourage of exceptional musicians with him. including Glen Sobel on drums, bassist Chuck Garrick, and guitarists Ryan Roxie, Tommy Henrickson and Nita Strauss. All of them had a great stage presence, but I have to admit Dave and I were both super impressed with Strauss, AKA Hurricane Nita. We have nothing but respect for a badass female musician making a name for herself in a rough, male-dominated business. Also much respect to the guys in the band who aren't intimidated by her.

Cooper played a set that took me straight back to junior high and high school. Songs such as "No More Mr. Nice Guy," "Elected," and "Billion Dollar Babies" sounded just as good live as I hoped they would. To see Alice Cooper, the Godfather of Shock Rock, performing them in person was just incredible.

The on-stage theatrics we had heard so much about were creepy and also great fun. Everything from the masked creatures lurking about, to the mock beheading, to the huge boa constrictor, to the fake trial scene was edgy, scary and campy all at the same time. It was 100% my aesthetic, and I loved every minute of it.

Now that we've seen Alice Cooper live in concert, would we go again? Absolutely. In a (Telltale) heartbeat!

I was right there when Alice Cooper tossed his cane to this guy. What a thrill it must have been for him!!

Alice Cooper will be on tour with Rob Zombie until September 18. In October, he's embarking on a European/UK tour. Click below for more info and merch and stuff:
