Like many acts at the ALL IN Music & Art Festival, Trampled by Turtles doesn’t fit into a single genre. Their bluegrass roots are strong, but they’ve also crossed over into indie/alt culture with several songs, including their hit, “Alone.”
Although I typically prefer performers who head bang and jump around, I was mesmerized by Dave Simonett, Tim Saxhaug, Dave Carroll, Erik Berry, Ryan Young, and Eamonn McLain as their fingers and bows flew at lightning speed. I was especially fascinated by McLain, who has somehow mastered the art of jumping while playing the cello. It’s super cool to watch!
Trampled by Turtles is on tour through January, 2023.
