Butcher Babies at Ruoff Music Center on 08/08/23

I've been waiting a long damn time to see and photograph Butcher Babies, and I can tell you it was worth the wait. From the moment they came on stage, Butcher Babies ensnared the audience with their badass presence, in-your-face lyrics, and hard-driving, high-energy performance.

The band, which is fronted by Carla Harvey and Heidi Shepherd, started their set with their May 2023 release, "Red Thunder." Although I knew what to expect, I can only imagine what some of the other concertgoers thought when they saw these these two gorgeous women owning the stage and growling the harsh lyrics. Butcher Babies is all about attitude, and these babes have it.

Although most eyes were on Harvey and Shepherd, guitarist Henry Flury, bassist Ricky Bonazza, and drummer Chase Brickenden weren't exactly hiding in the back. They all had plenty of swagger as they put on a blistering show that melted more than a few faces.

After the final notes of "It's Killin' Time, Baby," died away, I could tell from the cheers of the crowd that Butcher Babies had earned a bunch of new fans.
