As I took my seat at Ruoff Music Center before Jinjer’s set in support of Breaking Benjamin and Disturbed Saturday night, I looked around me and thought, “I should have some tattoos or piercings so I blend in a little better.” But after just a couple minutes of Jinjer’s show, I forgot all about everyone else and focused entirely on the Ukraine-based band’s amazing performance.
Jinjer, which consists of Tetiana Shmailyuk on lead vocals, Roman Ibramkhalilov on guitar, Eugene Abdukhanov on bass, and Vladislav Ulasevich on drums, was tight and cohesive. Abdukhanov and Shmailyuk were especially engaging, and were really good about making eye contact with the audience. I was totally impressed with Shmailyuk’s ability to instantly transition between clean and harsh vocals, and her stage presence was completely mesmerizing.
I have no idea what the lyrics to any of Jinjer’s tunes were, but the passion and energy came through loud and clear on every song as they head-banged their way through their six-song set. They had the audience on their feet and head banging right along with them, too. Anyone who arrived too late to catch Jinjer's act missed out on a teriffic show.
Although the Take Back Your Life tour ended in Noblesville, Jinjer will stay out on the road in the U.S. and Canada through the end of September. If you have a chance to see them at any of their upcoming gigs, take it! Here’s a link to help you find one:
