Styx is one of those bands whose history spans decades of and includes dozens of hits. With those hits come endless memories, becoming a soundtrack for many of our lives. Make no mistake, Styx plays all those hits seamlessly and flawlessly live, no gimmicks, no tracks. Even after all these years, their energy was impressive when they performed at Ruoff Music Center near Indianapolis on July 26, 2024. This was my second time seeing Styx and I was just as blown away this time around as I was the first time.
I was particularly fond of keyboardist and lead singer, Lawrence McGowan and his stage presence. He was so fun to watch, and we had a singular moment where we caught one another’s eye. He gave a great smile and nod to the camera. And yes it made my night.
Styx also includes founding member James “J.Y.” Young on guitars, the great Tommy Shaw on lead vocals and guitars, Todd Sucherman on drums and percussion, Will Evankovich on guitar and Terry Gowan on bass. Talk about a powerful collection of musicians!
Legendary rockers Foreigner and John Waite revved up the crowd for Styx. Both acts delved deep into their respective catalogs and complimented the headliner well. As for me, I hope to catch them again this summer.
