"He's back!" That was the response I got when I asked our friends Eric and Tammy Sue what they thought of Megadeth's show. It was Laura's and my first time seeing them, so I was interested in their opinion.
They went on to explain that the last time they saw Megadeth, which was in 2021, lead singer Dave Mustaine was not at his best. They said his vocals were not strong, and his words were hard to understand. It was understandable, given his throat cancer diagnosis in 2019, but as long-time fans, they were still disappointed.
Friday night's Megadeth show at Ruoff Music Center, however, was a completely different experience. Tammy Sue was thrilled that Mustaine was healthy, energetic, and every bit the rock star. His guitar skills were sharp and his distinctive vocals were loud and strong throughout the show.

So what did Laura and I think of our first Megadeth concert? It was everything a thrash metal show should be: loud, fast, and intense. The band was cohesive and put on a great show. The crowd, which included kids, gray-haired fans, and everyone in between, was really into it.
Mustaine drew most of the attention with his long blonde hair, aggressive stance, animated facials, and powerful vocals. As a veteran performer, Mustaine knew how to work the crowd. Guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari, bassist James LoMenzo, and drummer Dirk Verbeuren also put on a great show, throwing themselves into the performance.
Megadeth's tour wraps up at the end of September, but Megadeth won't just be chilling: they'll be hard at work on their next album, scheduled to be released in 2025. To stay updated, go to the official Megadeth website here:
