My introduction to New Year's Day was in 2017 when they opened for Halestorm and In This Moment on the Badass Bitches Tour. I was totally impressed by the way lead vocalist Ash Costello belted out heavy metal vocals while wearing 6-inch spike heels and skin-tight leather. She was also sexy as hell without looking slutty.
Six years, six singles and a few lineup changes later, New Years Day revisited Indianapolis in support of In This Moment and Ice Nine Kills on the "Kiss of Death" tour. The band is still fronted by Ash Costello, and she is still killing it onstage. In addition to nailing the vocals, she did a fantastic job of engaging the fans. I could tell that both her confidence and comfort level have grown. Her energy was positive and her smile was contagious, even as she growled out dark lyrics.
New Years Day's short but sweet seven-song setlist started with their brand-new single, "Vampyre," which was well-received by the audience. By the time the band got to their final song, "Angel Eyes," I just knew they had made a bunch of new fans
New Year's Day is:
Ash Costello – lead vocals
Nikki Misery – lead guitar
Brandon Wolfe – bass
Jeremy Valentyne – rhythm guitar, backing vocals
Trixx Daniel – drums
