If I had to pick a favorite performance from the lineup at Mudvayne's Psychotherapy Sessions Tour stop at Ruoff Music Center, it would be Nonpoint's. Don't hate on me if you disagree, because I think Mudvayne, Coal Chamber, GWAR, and Butcher Babies were all fantastic. But I just liked Nonpoint's music the best, and their energy was incredible.
Frontman and founding member Elias Soriano was especially engaging. He not only (literally) reached out to the fans in the front, but also connected with the rest of the audience through his intense gaze. Long braids flying, Soriano delivered Nonpoint's lyrics with fiery passion.
Nonpoint's seven-song set began with "Victim," a banger from the "Statement" album, and ended with "Bullet with a Name." I was a little disappointed "Breaking Skin" didn't make the setlist, but every song that did was a head banger. To be honest, I had a hard time keeping from dancing in the photo pit.
Fortunately, I'm a sucker for hair in motion, and there was plenty of that from lead guitarist Jaysin Zeilstra, rhythm guitarist Rasheed Thomas and bassist Adam Woloszyn, all of whom gave electrifying performances. Founding member and drummer Robb Rivera doesn't have long locks to throw around, but he laid down the beat with tremendous force and ferocity.
Ft. Lauderdale-based Nonpoint was a great choice to join Mudvayne on this tour; their energy got the audience even more amped after Butcher Babies' high-energy performance.
