Wednesday, July 10th, fans were transported back to the glory days of the '70s and '80s at Ruoff Music Center in Noblesville, Indiana. REO Speedwagon’s pre-show atmosphere was perfectly curated to set the stage, with a big-screen slideshow of Billboard top albums and artists of that era. To top it off, a voiceover simulating an FM rock radio station DJ set the mood for a nostalgic and upbeat atmosphere.
REO Speedwagon, known for their chart-topping album "Hi Infidelity," which was the biggest-selling album of 1981, burst onstage with huge smiles, and guitars and drumsticks in-hand. As the summer sun was descending behind Ruoff Music Center and the opening chords of "Don't Let Him Go" filled the venue, the audience erupted in cheers. The band's current lineup, featuring Kevin Cronin on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Bruce Hall on bass, Neal Doughty on keyboards, Dave Amato on lead guitar, and Bryan Hitt on drums, showed they still have the talent, chemistry, and energy that propelled them to stardom decades ago.
From the moment they started playing, it was evident that REO Speedwagon still enjoys putting on a good show. They love their music and are proud to have been one of the best in everyone’s favorite decade, the '80s. Kevin Cronin's voice was true to memory, hitting all the high notes with ease and with Dave Amato on guitar it was clear from the start, it was going to be a great show.
The setlist was a perfect blend of their classic hits and fan favorites. "Keep On Loving You" had couples swaying and singing along, while "Take It on the Run" and "Time for Me to Fly" were met with roaring applause and enthusiastic participation from the crowd. Each song was performed with the same passion and precision that made REO Speedwagon a household name. The band's chemistry was palpable, and their enjoyment on stage was infectious.
One of the highlights of the evening was when Kevin Cronin took a moment to reflect on the band’s history of playing in Indianapolis and their gratitude for Hoosiers’ unwavering support over the years. It was a beautiful reminder of the enduring bond between REO Speedwagon and their loyal fans.
Overall, REO Speedwagon delivered a stellar performance that not only showcased their timeless music but also celebrated the vibrant spirit of the '70s and '80s. For those in attendance, it was a nostalgic trip down memory lane, filled with incredible music.
