This is my third go around with some incarnation of Sammy Hagar and band. Musicians such as Sammy never cease to amaze me. In Sammy's case, he has been doing tours for decades with different band members, who are awesome and incredibly talented in their own right, but the key of Sammy's show a few nights ago was that the heart of the music that made him famous is still there. Sammy can still sing and perform as he did in his golden years, which was great to see. Sammy is still Sammy in all of his splendor. On this occasion, he wanted to give their fans what they came looking for, which is mainly a round of his greatest hits. Unfortunately, mother nature had other plans, and we were forced to evacuate due to a lightning storm. The show restarted some 40 minutes later, which was good news but by then, many fans had left.
I went to the concert with my wife. She in particular was super excited to see Joe Satriani perform. He is a guitar virtuoso and boy did he put on a fantastic show, supporting Sammy's incredible performance with his amazing guitar playing. I had read that Joe plays every song differently each night and you can see why. It'd be hard to replicate so much complexity and spontaneous guitar accents every time. And as always with Sammy, expect the unexpected at a Sammy Hagar show! It’s everything rock and roll should be. An energetic show of music, lights, supported by the synergy among band members, with expert showmanship, masterful vocals, elevated by Joe's unique and unparalleled guitar sounds. It was certainly a night to remember!
