Wednesday, July 10, Yacht Rock Revue transported fans back to the soft-rock sound of '70s radio with the classics of a bygone era of leisure and easy listening. The band, consisting of several Indiana University graduates, is a favorite of Hoosiers and it was their first time ever playing at Ruoff Music Center. Based out of Atlanta, Georgia, the Yacht Rock brought their smooth-sounding vibes and nostalgic grooves to the stage, delivering a performance that had the crowd, especially females in captain hats, swaying and singing along.
The current lineup of Yacht Rock Revue includes Peter Olson on vocals and guitar, Nicholas Niespodziani on vocals and guitar, Mark Cobb on drums, Mark Bencuya on keyboards, Greg Lee on bass, Mark Dannells on guitar, and David Freeman on saxophone and percussion. Olson, Niespodziani, and Cobb, all native Hoosiers, brought a special hometown pride to the performance, adding an extra layer of warmth and connection with the audience.
From the smooth vibe of "Pina Colada" to the groove of "Kiss You All Over," Yacht Rock Revue had the crowd hooked. Peter Olson and Nicholas Niespodziani's harmonies were pitch-perfect, their voices blending seamlessly to recreate the iconic sounds of artists like Michael McDonald and Christopher Cross. Mark Cobb's drumming provided a steady heartbeat, driving the rhythm while maintaining the laid-back feel that defines yacht rock. They closed the night with Baker Street, featuring David Freeman on saxophone.
Yacht Rock Revue excited the crowd with a contest with a special winner to win a hotel stay and concert tickets for a concert in 2025. The winner will be announced in September, the same month Yacht Rock Revue will return to Indianapolis at Everwise Amphitheater at White River State Park.
